If you encounter a minor dental emergency, you may not need to head to the dentist, you may be able to take care of your dental issues on your own. Here are four different minor dental emergencies that you may encounter and how you can deal with them on your own.
#1 Crack Tooth
If you crack your tooth, but don't knock out your tooth, the first thing you are going to want to do is clean the area. The easiest way to do this is just by rinsing your mouth out with some warm water or using some mouthwash. If your mouth was hit really hard, you may experience some swelling.
The best way to deal with swelling is by putting an icepack wrapped in a towel on the damaged area. You should try to see if you can get into your dentist as soon as possible to repair the cracked tooth.
#2 Bitten Tongue
It can be really easy to bite the inside of your tongue or mouth. It can happen when you are sleeping, when you are eating, or when your mouth area is hit by something.
When you bite your tongue or mouth, the first thing you should do is clean the area by running warm water over it and gargling warm water as well. Second, you can disinfect the area with some mouthwash. Third, put some ice on the area, wrapped up in a towel.

#3 Burned Mouth
It can be easy to burn the roof of your mouth when you enjoy some food that was much hotter than you expected, such as a slice of pizza or a bite of chicken pot pie. This can not only be painful, but it can also leave you with a second or third degree burn like you can get on your skin.
When you burn the roof of your mouth, there are a few different steps you should take. Very first thing you should do is put down the hot food and don't try to continue to eat it. Then, you should clean the wound. The easiest way to clean the wound is by gargling mouthwash, which contains ingredients that will disinfect your wound. Second, take an over-the-counter pain killer; this will help decrease the inflammation and will help you deal with the pain. Third, stick to soft and cool foods until your burn has healed.
#4 Stuck Item
Sometimes an item can get stuck in your teeth, which can be uncomfortable. When an item is stuck in your teeth, don't panic. First, rinse your mouth out with warm water to see if it will dislodge the item. Second, use some floss to try to remove the item. Third, try brushing your teeth.
If you can't get the item up by rinsing your mouth, brushing your teeth or by flossing, do not use any sharp instruments to remove the item.
